Shoes/Walking Boots

TYPE
Shoes for on the mountain come in various different types from hiking boots to gumboots. These shoes all have a specific purpose. Below is a brief rundown on the different types of shoes on the mountain.
Hiking boots
We are sure that you already know what these are but just in case you don’t here’s a little guide. Hiking boots are designed for long walks and built to handle all kinds of terrain. This means they are usually fairly waterproof and come with enough tread to stop you from slipping on the snow. They are a great option for anyone who wants to explore the mountain on foot, but they aren’t completely waterproof and therefore you may still get wet and cold feet.
Snow Boot/Sorel
You may have seen these around on the mountain but not been sure exactly what they were. These are designed with one purpose in mind: to keep your feet warm and dry in the deepest of snow. These shoes feature a waterproof bottom with large amounts of insulation inside the boot to keep you dry and warm.
Gumboot
The cheapest solution to your problems. The gumboot provides you with complete protection from water and snow, thus keeping your feet dry. Although they are the most waterproof, there is little else they can do. They aren’t the best for walking around due to the lack of support and tread and they won’t keep your feet as warm due to having less or even no insulation.  Ultimately, these are a great option for keeping yourself dry without breaking your bank and hey, you could just wear thicker socks….
Other
This is a blanket term for all other boots that may be listed on this site. This includes other forms of snow boots as well as shoes designed to keep you looking stylish while also keeping you dry and warm.
